Bella Figura - Jiri Kylian

How better to start off this blog with my biggest passion in life - ballet. And my favourite ballet by my favourite choreographer: Bella Figura by Jiri Kylian.

An interview with Jiri Kylian shows that all his works are based on the notion of love and death. Because there are only two things in life that we know for certain: Life and Death. And Life is given meaning by Love - not only the romantic love, but the love and zest of life, the energy between our environment, the connections between our surroundings and subconscious. Bella Figura is no exception to his triangle of life, love and death. Mesmerising music including works by Pergolesi, Vivaldi, Mozart and Torelli. Danced by the Netherlands Dance Company.

In a time of modern contemporary simplicity, fervour and surface level art (nothing wrong with it, I enjoy it too), it is beautiful to have Kylian in our times who can still interplay the depth of philosophy and intellectual explorations of humanity with a finesse reminiscent of an era gone by.
